The Shellfish Research Laboratory strives to contribute significant knowledge to the development and promotion of environmentally friendly aquaculture industries, and is also available to assist citizens through the associated permitting, regulations and licensing process.

The Shellfish Lab has emerged as a leader in the fields of shellfish aquaculture, biology and ecology through its research and development of new technologies and fisheries management techniques.

The Shellfish Research Laboratory has seawater and tank systems to hold brood stock, four walk-in temperature controlled rooms and illuminated temperature controlled chambers for maintaining stock algal cultures and mass algal rearing systems.

A greenhouse facility was constructed in 1990 to provide a location for economical grow-out of algal cultures.

The Shellfish Research Lab complex has a number of small Carolina Skiffs available for field use.

Visiting the Shellfish Research Lab is easy! The Marine Extension Service would love to see you there!
