Chicopee Complex - Athens

MAREX conducts outreach, education, and research to enhance coastal environmental and economic sustainability while also striving to be the state's lead outreach organization for the Georgia coast. 

MAREX administrative offices and a GIS specialist are located in Athens. A seafood specialist is located in Peachtree City.

Marine Extension - Brunswick

Through education and outreach, the Brunswick Station promotes coastal ecosystem stewardship and fosters understanding of the coastal environment while enhancing the compatibility of resource use among existing marine industries, businesses, regulators and stakeholders.

State-of-the-art seafood technology laboratories and a seafood pilot plant are available for research and training at the Brunswick waterfront facility. The R/V Georgia Bulldog, a 72 ft research vessel, is the primary research platform for use in advisory service and applied research projects. Several smaller boats are available for field projects.

Seafood Education and Marketing - Peachtree City

The MAREX Seafood Education and Marketing office promotes nutritional benefits of seafood while emphasizing safe handling, preparation and consumption. A seafood specialist in Peachtree City targets wholesalers, retailers, educators, consumers and the media and promotes awareness of Georgia's seafood industry.

Marine Education Center and Aquarium - Savannah

The mission of the MAREX Marine Education Center and Aquarium is to develop the public's understanding and appreciation of the numerous coastal marine environments in the state of Georgia, and to foster respect for the beauty and complexity of these environments.

The MAREX Education Center is located on Skidaway Island, near Savannah. A magnificent, state of the art teaching aquarium and the Educational Building can be found this facility. There are educational exhibits, lecture rooms, four teaching laboratories and two research laboratories. A dormitory and dining room are also operated in support of the marine education program.

The R/V Sea Dawg, a 43 ft converted lobster boat, is moored just outside of the facility and is available to make small cruises for educational purposes. A boardwalk over the salt marsh to the river supports the education program and is an ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act) - sponsored platform which allows handicapped students to participate in the field courses. This boardwalk is part of the ADA approved nature trail.

Shellfish Research Laboratory - Savannah

The MAREX Shellfish Research Laboratory strives to contribute significant knowledge to the development and promotion of environmentally friendly aquaculture industries, and is also available to assist citizens through the associated permitting, regulations, and licensing process.

The Shellfish Research Laboratory has seawater and tank systems to hold brood stock, four walk- in temperature controlled rooms, illuminated temperature-controlled chambers, a modern pilot-scale greenhouse. 

The R/V Sea Dawg, a 43 ft converted lobster boat, makes short cruises in support of the education and research programs. One dock system exists for boat anchorage and the R/V Sea Dawg and several smaller Carolina Skiffs are secured there.
